Job Summary

Wexford Health Sources is seeking a highly skilled Dental Hygienist to join our team in a correctional setting. As a Dental Hygienist, you will be responsible for providing technical and advisory services in oral or dental hygiene, under the direct supervision of a dentist.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform oral prophylaxis and other dental hygiene procedures as prescribed by the dentist.
  • Assist the dentist in administering fluoride treatments and completing dental x-rays.
  • Accurately record services in the medical record of the patient and classify dental conditions utilizing APHA standards.
  • Screen for dental emergencies and sick call.
  • Check and maintain instruments, equipment, and supplies, including ordering replacements and submitting work orders.
  • Complete oral prophylactic care, including setup of instruments, equipment, and supplies.
  • Ensure proper cleanup, packaging, and sterilizing of instruments.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly working environment.
  • Instruct dental assistants in proper techniques and other training as directed.
  • Develop oral hygiene education programs for residents.
  • Participate in in-service education.
  • Curettage and polishing of teeth.
  • Instruct patients about oral hygiene and proper care of teeth.
  • Maintain cleanliness and sterile conditions of dental units.
  • Assist the dentist at clinic sessions.
  • Ensure continuity of care.
  • Make appropriate entries on patient's dental chart.
  • Supply data for clinic reports.
  • Recognize symptoms of shock and fainting and provide necessary aid as directed or required.
  • Responsible for dental office security, including instrument counts.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of inmate records.
  • Approach change in a positive manner.
  • Make suggestions for improving work conditions to the Medical Director and Health Care Unit Administrator.
  • Accept constructive criticism in stressful situations.
  • Perform other duties as required or assigned.

Requirements

  • Current Illinois license as a Dental Hygienist.
  • Current CPR Certification from the American Red Cross, American Heart Association, or American Safety and Health Institute.
  • Experience working in a dental setting or correctional setting preferred.
  • Appropriate education needed to obtain license.
