Director of Accounting Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Director of Accounting to lead our financial department. The ideal candidate will be responsible for overseeing all accounting operations, ensuring accuracy in financial reporting, and developing strategies to improve financial performance.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Accounting Operations Management: Manage and oversee the daily operations of the accounting department, including accounts payable/receivable, general ledger, revenue recognition, and financial reporting.
  2. Compliance and Risk Management: Develop and implement accounting policies and procedures to maintain compliance with federal, state, and local financial legal requirements.
  3. Financial Planning and Analysis: Lead the preparation of the budget and financial forecasts, and report variances.
  4. Financial Reporting: Prepare and publish timely monthly financial statements.
  5. Controller Duties: Coordinate and direct the preparation of the budget and financial forecasts and report variances. Support month-end and year-end close processes.
  6. Quality Control: Ensure quality control over financial transactions and financial reporting.
  7. Government Reporting: Manage and comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings.
  8. Process Improvement: Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls.
Qualifications:
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (Master's preferred).
  • Certifications: Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Management Accountant (CMA) license.
  • Experience: Proven experience as a financial controller, accounting supervisor, chief or senior accountant.
  • Skills: Thorough knowledge of accounting principles and procedures, experience with creating financial statements and general ledger functions, strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), and excellent accounting software user and administration skills.
