The Senior Avionics Specialist is responsible for conducting comprehensive aircraft maintenance, which encompasses inspection, operational testing, repair, modification, and replacement of aircraft electrical and avionics systems and components.

This role requires applying advanced technical knowledge and skills to diagnose intricate electrical and avionics issues.

Key Responsibilities:


Utilize schematic diagrams, blueprint drawings, maintenance manuals, and factory publications to operate, modify, test, and repair aircraft electrical and avionics systems.


Employ testing equipment such as digital volt/amp meters, transponder ramp testers, fuel quantity testers, ITT calibration test sets, and other necessary tools for troubleshooting, modification, and repair of avionics and electrical systems.

Refer to the T-6 Maintenance Manual, NATOPS, and factory-published manuals to operate and test respective aircraft avionics components.

Complete necessary maintenance documentation in NALCOMIS OOMA/VIDS MAFS as required.

Order parts and materials as needed.


Achieve and maintain qualifications as a Plane Captain and any associated licenses or certifications required for the role of an OMAT2.

Operate ground support equipment effectively.

Identify and address avionics and electrical corrosion issues.

Conduct aircraft jacking and hoisting as necessary.

Perform certification and recertification of altimeter systems.

Calibrate directional guidance systems.

Conduct collateral duty inspections as required.

Maintain current turn qualifications.

Ensure cleanliness and organization of the work area.

Adhere to Foreign Object Damage (FOD), Egress Familiarization, and Hazardous Waste and Tool Control programs.


Follow all established safety regulations and guidelines relevant to the contract, facility, and job responsibilities.

Assist as directed to ensure the safety, security, and preservation of government and company-owned equipment.

Exhibit a courteous and professional demeanor when interacting with customers.

Provide and maintain personal hand tools.

Operate portable fire-fighting equipment.


Utilize aircraft ground servicing equipment, including vehicles, tugs, tractors, servicing carts, aircraft jacks, hoists, test equipment, hand tools, and power tools.

Perform all other position-related duties as assigned or requested.

Minimum Qualifications:
Successful completion of U.S. Armed Forces aircraft avionics school or equivalent training, or three (3) years of relevant on-the-job experience with similar avionics systems and components is required.High school diploma or GED is mandatory.

Must meet any Government or Company licensing and qualification requirements for the position.


Must possess three (3) years of experience in aircraft electrical and avionics maintenance, including corrosion detection, treatment, and prevention, as well as performing maintenance on avionics and electrical systems, utilizing tools, blueprints, drawings, wiring diagrams, schematics, and adhering to standard safety protocols.


Demonstrate the ability to read and comprehend schematic diagrams, generate, sign off, and order parts using NALCOMIS OOMA/VIDS/MAF OPNAV form 4790/60, and utilize aircraft electrical and avionics systems along with applicable maintenance and technical manuals.

Possess a foundational knowledge of aircraft systems and nomenclature.

Exhibit proficiency in using basic tools and testing equipment.

Familiarity with the operational capabilities and limitations of electrical and avionics systems is essential.

Possess a working knowledge of corrosion detection, prevention, and treatment.

Must be able to read, write, understand, and communicate in English and follow both verbal and written instructions.

Must maintain current turn qualifications.

This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a United States Security Clearance.

Work Environment and Physical Demands:
This role requires sitting, standing, and walking for extended periods.
Frequent climbing, bending, stooping, squatting, crawling, crouching, kneeling, lifting, carrying, balancing, and reaching above shoulder level, as well as pushing or pulling weights up to 70 pounds, are necessary.

Requires good eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity.

Must have close vision, including color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Normal hearing range is required.

May require the use of a respirator.


Work conditions may vary from a standard shop or hangar environment to areas exposed to inclement weather, which may include severe temperature changes, direct sunlight, wind, and rain.

May involve working in environments with prevalent noise hazards.


Exposure to high-intensity noise levels, extreme temperature fluctuations, materials identified on Material Safety Data Sheets, and working around aircraft and machinery is possible.

May also be exposed to electrical shock hazards.

Work locations include aircraft maintenance shops, hangars, and flight lines.

Travel may be required to support cross-country rescue operations and detachments of unknown duration.
