Position Overview: Cardiac Ultrasound Technician at Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian

Compensation: $ $ /hour. Actual pay may differ based on location, experience, skills, and education.

Under the guidance of the technical lead and medical director, the Cardiac Ultrasound Technician demonstrates expertise and proficiency in performing level I routine ultrasound examinations in accordance with departmental protocols.

  • Technologists utilize independent judgment and requisite knowledge to produce high-quality diagnostic ultrasound images.
  • They evaluate the technical quality of the images captured prior to submission to the interpreting radiologist.
  • Engagement with patients and their families regarding the procedure is essential, including reporting any alterations in the patient's condition and initiating emergency protocols as necessary.
  • Accurate entry of patient data into the appropriate hospital systems is required.
  • Roles within the hospital may involve on-call responsibilities and rotation to nearby imaging centers.
  • Additional assigned duties may be undertaken as required.
  • Specific to the Cardiology Department: On-call personnel must respond within 15 minutes, troubleshoot issues, provide off-site services as needed, and be prepared to deliver on-site services within 1.5 hours of notification.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Possession of an Associate's degree or higher is mandatory.
  • Graduation from an ARDMS-accredited ultrasound program is required.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience is preferred, although recent graduates may also be considered.
  • Cardiology Department Specific: Experience with adult, neonate, and pediatric cardiac ultrasound, stress echocardiograms, TEEs, and Intra-Operative TEE is highly desirable.

Required Certifications

  • BLS certification is essential.
  • Registration with the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) in one or more specialties is required: Non-Invasive Cardiac Imaging: RDCSAE: Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer – Adult Echo (RCSAE) registered, or RCS: Registered Cardiac Sonographer -Adult Echo, or eligibility for registry.
