Job Summary:

As a key member of the MarinHealth team, the Admitting Representative will play a vital role in ensuring the efficient and orderly admission of inpatients, as well as the registration of outpatients. This individual will be responsible for collecting accurate patient information, minimizing wait times, and maintaining high patient satisfaction levels. Additionally, they will prepare materials related to these processes and collect required deposits, copayments, co-insurances, or deductibles.

Responsibilities:

  • Timely and accurate registration of all patients, including functions related to Pre-Registration, Prior Authorization, or Insurance Verification.
  • Obtaining timely and accurate information to establish a complete Medical Record and proper demographic and financial information, with an error rate of 5% or less.
  • Processing registration records and distributing this information to hospital departments.
  • Collecting deposits, copayments, deductibles, or co-insurances as required.
  • Maintaining a strong working knowledge of insurance and billing requirements to ensure accurate registration.
  • Escorting or arranging the escort of patients to patient care units by wheelchair or walking.
  • Demonstrating strong customer relations skills, greeting and providing information to patients and visitors.
  • Answering the telephone in a professional manner and relaying information timely.
  • Maintaining effective working relationships with external organizations and agencies as required.
  • Remaining focused on assigned tasks and being a strong team player at all times.

Requirements:

  • High School diploma or GED; Associates degree in healthcare or business field preferred.
  • One or more years of experience working in an acute care setting, preferably in Admitting/Registration, Pre-admission Process, Insurance Verification, or clerical experience in a healthcare setting.
  • Computer experience required.
  • Working knowledge of overall aspects of the admissions process, including patient admissions, pre-admissions, insurance verification, and customer service.
  • Ability to work tactfully and professionally with patients, family members, and hospital staff.
  • Problem-solving, multitasking, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with a preference for speaking English, Spanish, or other languages.
  • Understanding of the diversity of the patient population and treating everyone with respect and courtesy.

Education and Certification:

  • BLS-HCP with American Heart Association Certification within 90 days of hire.
  • Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB) Training within 90 days of hire and maintained annually.
