Overview

This management position is responsible for planning, managing, and overseeing a software development team located in Lincolnshire, IL, which collaborates with global teams. The team develops a web-based Windows PC application that runs on our global point-of-sale systems, selling and delivering diagnostic scan tool software. Additionally, the team is responsible for a large number of web-based services supporting software sales and delivery.

Responsibilities
  1. Direct line management of software development and software quality associates operating in an agile methodology with a focus on secure software development.
  2. Agile Product Owner responsibilities, including managing the team backlog and collaborating with the Product Manager on priorities and features.
  3. Ownership of the product licensing system design and software upgrade distribution systems released on rigid schedules.
  4. Collaboration with diagnostic scan tool product managers and development managers on integrated builds, delivery of installers, and upgrade processes of scan tool software.
  5. Collaboration with production factory teams on tools supporting the supply chain, including production, customer care, and repair depot.
  6. Collaboration with the Information Technology team on hosting deployments, including delivery of run books and installers.
  7. Developing team members – career development, skill improvement, and succession planning.
  8. Contribution to the software development long-range strategy, including management of quality, technical debt, and technical stack.
  9. Management and enhancement of key metrics to manage the performance of the software development team.
  10. Collaboration with other Snap-on Groups and Divisions to execute product, support, and financial goals.
  11. Overseeing/sponsoring Rapid Continuous Improvements (Lean Initiatives) within areas of responsibility to drive cost out and improve the overall productivity and quality of the team.
Qualifications and Skills

Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree: Engineering, Business Administration, or related, or equivalent experience.
  • Advanced degree preferred.

Years of Experience:

  • 7 Years previous software development experience.
  • 5 Years previous managerial or leadership experience.

Other Requirements:

  • Team building skills with the ability to motivate associates.
  • Previous experience developing or managing development of hosted web-based systems and desktop application systems.
  • Experience with external hosting providers preferred.
  • Continuous Improvement (Lean) experience with a proven track record of achievements.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and analytical skills.
  • Excellent presentation, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills.
  • Required travel: Rarely, but includes internationally.
