As a key member of the Technology/Product Development team, the Development Specialist will provide essential technical guidance and leadership in the design and manufacturing of high-power transformers and magnetics, particularly within the renewable energy sector.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct market analysis for magnetics to pinpoint potential new transformer suppliers.
- Develop and implement supplier audit protocols for magnetics procurement.
- Offer technical insights to the sourcing team aimed at reducing magnetics costs.
- Facilitate design reviews with suppliers to uncover design vulnerabilities and cost-saving opportunities.
- Generate supplier quality audit reports for the assessment of new vendors and ongoing evaluations of current suppliers.
- Oversee field activities related to magnetics, including process reviews, system modifications, maintenance, and repairs.
- Manage relationships with the Company’s transformer and inductor suppliers, providing technical oversight and input.
- Deliver root cause analysis reports regarding field issues for internal management, suppliers, and clients.
- Prepare and communicate detailed specifications to ensure vendors can provide accurate cost estimates.
- Create documentation for clients that clearly outlines the advantages of the Company’s solutions and suggests competitive options tailored to their specific needs.
- Encourage consistent engineering practices and enhance response times by fostering effective working relationships and communication with personnel.
- Present the Company’s technical solutions at meetings, conferences, and through professional publications.
- Lead technical discussions with design teams during the product specification and development phases.
- Provide technical consulting, coaching, and training to both company and vendor engineering teams to ensure successful project execution.

Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in power systems, electrical, mechanical, or a related engineering discipline, or equivalent experience.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in the design, application, and manufacturing of large transformers and inductors.
- Proven experience in transformer procurement, service, and repair.
- Established successful working relationships with clients, suppliers, and other stakeholders.
- Demonstrated leadership, interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
- Continuous improvement in assigned responsibilities.
- Proficiency in relevant software applications.
- Willingness to travel domestically and internationally as required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in power systems, electrical, mechanical, or a related engineering field.
- Experience with computer modeling techniques, such as Altair Magsoft.
- Experience in medium voltage transformer design for solar applications.
- Knowledge of oil-cooled transformer design methodologies.
- Experience in procuring magnetics for major utility projects.
- Experience with custom MW scale power magnetics for industrial uses.
