Chemist 1

We are seeking a highly skilled Chemist 1 to join our team at Merieux NutriSciences. As a trusted partner, our Public Health mission is to make food systems safer, healthier and more sustainable.

The Chemist 1 will be responsible for conducting chemical analyses, ensuring the accuracy and reliability of test results, and maintaining laboratory quality control records. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in analytical chemistry, laboratory instrumentation, and quality control procedures.

• Conduct chemical analyses using various laboratory instruments, including HPLC, GC, ICP, and AA.
• Ensure the accuracy and reliability of test results by following established quality control procedures.
• Maintain laboratory quality control records, including calibration and maintenance of laboratory instruments.
• Extract desired components from samples using appropriate processes, such as distillation, solvent extraction, and acid digestion.
• Calculate the concentration of components present in samples and post results.
• Prepare standards or reagents needed for analysis procedures.
• Maintain knowledge of Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) required to complete job responsibilities.
• Initiate and investigate customer complaints and non-conformances.
• Review batches and respond to out-of-specification results or questionable data.
• Maintain equipment records in appropriate software systems.

• Associate's degree in Chemistry or related field; Bachelor's degree preferred.
• One to two years of experience in a laboratory setting, preferably in analytical chemistry.
• Strong knowledge of laboratory instrumentation, including HPLC, GC, ICP, and AA.
• Basic knowledge of food science and analytical chemistry.
• Manual dexterity to pipet samples as required.
• Analytical skills to complete tasks within the department.

The Chemist 1 will work in a laboratory setting with proper lighting and temperature control. Occasional exposure to laboratory fumes, chemicals, and materials will occur when in the laboratory. Safety equipment, such as gloves, laboratory coat, and eyeglasses, may need to be worn depending on the testing process.

The pay range for this role is $23.50 per hour.
