The Office of Inspector General (OIG) is an independent office within the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) responsible for promoting excellence, integrity, and accountability throughout the department. As a Criminal Investigator, you will play a critical role in conducting investigations, audits, evaluations, and inspections to enhance program effectiveness and efficiency, and to detect and prevent waste, fraud, and mismanagement in DHS programs and operations.
Key Responsibilities
As a Criminal Investigator, you will be responsible for conducting complex and sensitive investigations, including criminal, civil, and administrative investigations. You will work closely with other law enforcement agencies, including the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), and the U.S. Marshals Service, to gather evidence, interview witnesses, and develop cases. You will also be responsible for preparing and presenting investigative reports, and for testifying in court as needed.
Requirements
To be eligible for this position, you must have a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, and at least 3 years of experience in law enforcement or a related field. You must also have a valid driver's license and be able to pass a background investigation. Additionally, you must be able to obtain a Top Secret security clearance.
Working Conditions
As a Criminal Investigator, you will work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment, often under trying conditions. You will be required to work long hours, including evenings and weekends, and to travel frequently. You will also be required to wear a uniform and to carry a firearm.
