Cardiovascular ICU Nurse

This 16-bed cardiovascular/cardiothoracic care unit is a high-acuity setting that requires nurses to provide complex care to patients recovering from cardiac procedures. The unit's primary specialty is post-open heart/CABG patients, with a focus on providing individualized care to patients requiring ventilator support, SWAN-GANZ catheters, vasopressors, inotrope drips, high alert drips, intra-aortic balloon pumps, continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT), IMPELLA devices, and chest tubes.
The nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:2 for regular ICU patients, with a 1:1 ratio for high-acuity patients. The unit's dynamic environment requires nurses to be adaptable and able to prioritize tasks effectively.

Scope of WorkThe Registered Nurse (RN) in this role will utilize the nursing process to provide professional nursing care, incorporating patient-family centered care principles to assess, plan, implement, evaluate, and discharge patients. The RN will work under the direction of the Nurse Leader, adhering to Corewell Health policies and procedures, and will recognize the impact of nursing care and patient/family partnerships on patient outcomes.
The RN will partner with patients and families to develop individualized plans of care, utilizing patient/family input and goals to inform care decisions. The RN will also develop teaching strategies for patients and families, documenting education and learning in the health record.

- Associates in Nursing Required
- Bachelors in Nursing Required within 5 years
- Graduates from a non-accredited school of nursing must have at least one year of acute care experience or at least two years of experience in a licensed health care role and must have successfully passed the NCLEX licensure examination.
- MI Registered Nurse (RN) Required
- Basic Life Support (BLS) from one of the following organizations - American Heart Association, American Red Cross, or Canadian Heart and Stroke Required upon hire
- AHA Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Required within 6 months
- Specialty Certification highly recommended within 2 years
- 1 year of experience as an RN in the ICU Preferred
- Direct inpatient care required
