Position Overview:
The Financial Grants Specialist will be responsible for managing all post-award functions related to grants, including but not limited to:
  • Conducting budget and expense analysis
  • Preparing monthly grant and contract invoices
  • Monitoring grant expenditures and collaborating with program staff to optimize grant utilization
  • Preparing and submitting budget modifications to funders
  • Communicating with fiscal contacts at funding sources for necessary information and problem resolution
  • Executing grant close-out functions, including journal entries and final cost reports
  • Maintaining grant information for funder and auditor review
  • Assisting with audits and reviews by funding agencies
  • Maintaining balance sheet details and reconciliations for grants receivable and revenue
  • Providing backup support for other departmental positions as needed

Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
A Bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field is required, or a minimum of a High School diploma/GED with four years of relevant accounting experience, preferably in a nonprofit or government setting.

Skills and Knowledge:
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel, is essential. Familiarity with fund management software, such as MIP, is advantageous but not mandatory. Knowledge of OMB circulars A-133 and the OMB Omni Circular is preferred.

Competencies:
The ideal candidate will be highly organized and detail-oriented, capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously. Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, are necessary for effective interaction with individuals, organizations, and grant funders. The ability to work independently under pressure, meet tight deadlines, and analyze budgets and financial reports is crucial.

Working Conditions:
This position primarily involves office work, requiring occasional physical activities such as bending and lifting materials weighing up to 25 pounds. Daily use of a personal computer is necessary for entering and revising information.

Special Requirements:
A valid California driver's license and proof of auto liability insurance are required, along with access to a personal vehicle for work-related purposes. COVID-19 vaccination and booster or a medical/religious exemption are mandatory.
