About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Infrastructure Engineer to join our Cloud Operations - Security & Compliance team at American Express. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for providing day-to-day operational leadership and support for our Linux Servers environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Administer, patch, and upgrade Linux operating systems on physical and virtual machines and its software packages.
  • Manage user creation, file/directory permissions, job scheduling, LVM, IP configurations, NFS, NIS, DNS, SSH, storage configurations, performance tuning (OS, network, I/O, Storage), and write and debug shell scripts.
  • Provision and configure SAN and multipathing.
  • Develop Linux base scripting for backup and other automation tasks.
  • Work with Virtualization technologies such as VMware.
  • Utilize automation/configuration management tools like Puppet, Ansible, or an equivalent.
  • Closely collaborate with Application development and Database teams for server and storage resource requirements.
  • Ensure connectivity among all physical, virtual servers, and SAN. Work closely with network and storage teams for any issues related to network or SAN.
  • Configure application-specific kernel parameters, system hardening, implement firewall, memory, network, and overall performance tuning of RHEL (OS, network, I/O, Storage).
  • Draw upon concepts of tools, technologies, and methodologies to collaborate with other technical specialists when carrying out assigned duties.
  • Maintain skills to the current industry level of certification.
  • Recognize and articulate job-related problems to management.
  • Analyze technical problems and create solutions involving the use of existing techniques and/or tools.
  • Strong understanding of file system concepts, server clustering technologies, and methodologies.
  • Server maintenance, backups, performance audit, and logging.
Requirements
  • 10+ years of proven experience managing various Linux platforms.
  • 5+ years of experience with tools to manage, patch, and support Linux operations.
  • Skilled in Linux patching process, troubleshooting issues, and scripting (shell, Ansible, etc.).
  • Self-motivation and strong communication skills, both verbal and written, are key attributes for this position.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks, set priorities, schedule, and meet deadlines (work under pressure and prioritize tasks).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving techniques.
  • Experience with servers management in VMware is preferred.
  • Bachelor's in Computer Science/Management Information Systems or equivalent experience preferred.
