Respiratory Therapy Assistant

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Respiratory Therapy Extern to join our team at Advocate Aurora Health. As a Respiratory Therapy Extern, you will play a critical role in supporting the growth and development of respiratory students as they transition from student to novice respiratory therapist.
Key Responsibilities- Under the supervision of a licensed respiratory therapist, perform routine and basic level respiratory therapy procedures, including oxygen therapy, pulse oximetry, aerosol therapy, and incentive spirometry.
- Organize and maintain a supply of respiratory therapy equipment and supplies, adhering to department-specific standards.
- Collect equipment from various hospital areas, clean, and reassemble it according to proper procedure, observing standard precautions.
- Process disposable and non-disposable equipment based on infection prevention guidelines.
- Complete annual hospital competencies and learn new equipment, supplies, procedures, and processes as needed to perform the job effectively.
- Perform patient positioning and transporting duties, which require lifting and pushing/pulling, while utilizing proper technique.
- Currently enrolled in an accredited or approved program in Respiratory Therapy.
- No experience required.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) must be obtained within 6 months, unless department leader has determined it is not required.
