Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Traffic Technician II to join our team at Douglas County. This role involves maintaining signs and markings in unincorporated Douglas County, requiring a combination of skills for preparing, fabricating, installing, and maintaining all county road traffic control devices.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate equipment including pickups, single axle/tandem axle trucks, loaders, backhoes, snowplows, aerial bucket truck, and salt spreaders/sanders that require a CDL license.
  • Assist in the manufacturing, installation, and maintenance of traffic control signs throughout unincorporated Douglas County in accordance with the latest version of the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD).
  • Assist with the installation of pavement markings throughout unincorporated Douglas County in accordance with the latest version of the MUTCD.
  • Perform routine maintenance, operation, and repairs of assigned vehicles and equipment in the field and shop.
  • Perform snow removal and sand/de-icing material applications.
  • Serve as part of the on-call staff for emergencies, carrying a phone for a week at a time (after six months).
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • A high school diploma or GED.
  • Two (2) years of experience and/or education involving the MUTCD, including the design, fabrication, installation, and maintenance of signing and the layout, installation, and maintenance of striping or related experience.
  • A combination of education and experience may be considered. Must be at least 18 years of age.
Certifications, Licenses, & Registrations
  • Must possess a State of Colorado Class (B) Commercial Driver License and complying insurance upon hire. Class A License is preferred.
  • Within 1 1/2 years, employee must become familiar with the MUTCD, obtain certification as an ATTSA or IMSA Work Zone Temporary Traffic Control Technician, and obtain an IMSA Level I Sign & Markings certification.
  • IMSA Level II Signs & Markings Certification required within 2 years.
