Job Summary

The University of Utah's Clinical Trials Support department is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Clinical Research Unit Manager to lead the Clinical Research Unit (CRU) team. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for planning, organizing, and directing the management of the CRU's staffing, customer service, and business management operations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Forecasts, develops, and implements policies and procedures in customer service, staff management, research protocol performance, and business goals and objectives.
  • Markets and promotes new and existing programs and services to internal and external customers.
  • Participates in University-wide committees to establish and facilitate improved clinical research customer service standards and administrative plans and policies.
  • Facilitates cooperative and collaborative community, institutional, and partner relationships and processes to support the research enterprise.
  • Ensures customer satisfaction by analyzing complaints, concerns, and suggestions and providing appropriate follow-through and process improvement.
  • Develops departmental strategies consistent with the assigned department's continuous quality improvement program.
  • Ensures competency of staff through the development and/or presentation of educational programs and ongoing staff performance evaluations.
  • Manages and ensures adequate and competent staffing of the CRU, including performance evaluations, interviewing, hiring, counseling employees, tracking and reporting resource utilization, invoicing, and cost-effective business practices.
Requirements
  • A Utah RN license is required for this position.
  • Requires a Bachelor's degree in a related area of assignment or equivalency (2 years related work experience may be substituted for 1 year of education) and four years of progressively more responsible management experience.
  • Background knowledge of assigned department's area of specialization in order to analyze, plan, and draw conclusions for recommendations to superiors.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills in planning and directing employees and processes in order to effectively monitor and develop subordinates and to ensure the smooth operation of department.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in a related area may be preferred.
  • Completion of provided supervisory training within one year of employment may be required.
  • Previous Nurse Manager experience or senior Clinical Research Nursing experience is required.
  • A Master's degree in nursing may be preferred.
