Responsibilities:

The Caterpillar Leaders for Global Operations Program is crafted to provide seasoned professionals with hands-on experience that leads to tangible impacts. Graduates from the MIT LGO program who join Caterpillar will engage in a multi-phase initiative that encompasses:
  • Three rotational assignments aimed at comprehending the business, the products, and the customer base.
  • Mentorship from senior executives at Caterpillar.
  • Focused leadership development and experiential learning opportunities.
Assignment Options:

Potential roles for the initial rotational assignment include:

Manufacturing Project Engineer

Support a facility transformation initiative at the Decatur, Illinois location, which is Caterpillar's largest production site in North America. This facility manufactures prime products and aftermarket components for Large Mining Trucks, Off Highway Trucks, Wheel Tractor Scrapers, Large Wheel Loaders, and Motor Graders.

The ideal candidate will thrive in a dynamic environment, possessing a strong affinity for data analytics and its role in driving change within a LEAN manufacturing context. Familiarity with industry benchmarks to formulate recommendations for a multi-generational project plan aimed at enhancing facility performance is beneficial. Excellent communication skills are crucial for motivating a cross-functional team to realize a strategic vision.

Supply Chain Project Manager

This role will oversee capital deployment, technology roadmap development, and optimization of the extended value chain for the Decatur Supply Chain and Logistics operations. Key focus areas include continuous improvement in ordering, receiving, storage, and distribution processes. Leveraging data analytics and automation will be pivotal in streamlining daily operations and defining a technology roadmap for a cohesive facility ecosystem.

Candidates should have experience in fast-paced environments, a passion for process enhancement, and a solid understanding of key supply chain functions from order to delivery. A collaborative approach and strong problem-solving skills are essential for managing projects across various functional areas.

Value Chain Designer

Lead a cross-functional team to design and implement a modular value chain for the next generation of 777 Off-Highway Trucks or Ultra Class Large Mining Trucks at the Decatur facility. This role involves collaborating across the enterprise to determine component sourcing, implement automation, validate processes, and integrate machine modules.

Previous experience in manufacturing, quality assurance, supply chain, or procurement is advantageous. Candidates should be familiar with root cause analysis (RCA) techniques and process mapping, with the ability to document current and proposed manufacturing processes for improvement identification. Project management and change management experience, along with the ability to influence and communicate effectively across various organizational levels, will enhance success in this role.

Continuous Process Improvement Black Belt

The Hydraulic Mining Shovel product group at the Tucson Mining Center is seeking a Continuous Process Improvement Black Belt. This position will lead initiatives aimed at addressing quality defects in field products and collaborate across the organization to identify root causes and corrective measures.

Top candidates will possess knowledge of Six Sigma methodologies and strong analytical capabilities to leverage data for problem-solving. Effective collaboration and communication skills, along with a proactive approach to problem-solving, are vital for success in this role.

  • Currently enrolled in the MIT LGO program with a graduation date in 2025.
  • Minimum of 3 years of professional experience.
  • Willingness to travel and relocate domestically.
