Job Summary

We are seeking a highly qualified and dedicated High School Counselor to join our team. The successful candidate will provide comprehensive counseling and guidance programs for high school students, working collaboratively with teachers, parents, and administrators to support academic achievement and school success.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Develop and implement comprehensive counseling and guidance programs for high school students.
  2. Provide consultative and collaborative services to teachers, parents, and administrators to support academic achievement and school success.
  3. Conduct counseling and guidance learning activities in the classroom, collaborating with teaching staff for each assigned grade level.
  4. Consult with teachers to facilitate the infusion of counseling content into the regular education curriculum.
  5. Collaborate with high school personnel to assist students in making a smooth transition to high school.
  6. Provide orientation activities for incoming students and their parents.
  7. Utilize technology to plan and provide instruction and facilitate student learning.
  8. Model appropriate and innovative use of technology for students and staff.
  9. Inform students and parents of test results and their implications for educational and career planning.
  10. Interpret group or individual test results to faculty and administration for use in enhancing instruction.
  11. Coordinate, plan, and participate in the implementation of the school system assessment program.
  12. Conduct structured, goal-oriented counseling sessions to meet the identified needs of individuals and groups of students.
  13. Plan and conduct staff development programs and activities.
  14. Facilitate conferences with teachers and/or parents and/or students.
  15. Plan and conduct parent education programs.
  16. Assist families with school-related problems and issues.
  17. Consult with and refer students with problems to community-based resources.
  18. Cooperate and collaborate with other professionals to enhance the education of students.
  19. Communicate with administrators, teachers, students, parents, and the community regarding the counseling and guidance program.
  20. Review the counseling and guidance program annually with the counseling and guidance department staff and advisory committee.
  21. Identify student needs periodically and use the results for program planning.
  22. Establish a planning calendar for counseling and guidance program activities.
  23. Evaluate the counseling and guidance program.
  24. Attend staff development programs, workshops, and conferences to improve professional performance and knowledge.
  25. Serve on school and/or system committees, advisory boards, and/or task forces as needed.
  26. Participate in state-approved evaluation program as required.
  27. Actively supervise students during assigned duty before, during, and/or after school as directed.
  28. Supervise and/or assist with extracurricular and co-curricular activities as assigned.
  29. Maintain appropriate confidentiality regarding school/workplace matters.
  30. Demonstrate initiative in identifying potential problems and/or opportunities for improvement in areas of responsibility.
  31. Engage in professional growth and demonstrate professional ethics and effective leadership.
  32. Report potential problems, unusual events, or work irregularities to appropriate administrative or supervisory personnel.
  33. Respond to inquiries, requests, constructive feedback, concerns, and/or complaints in a timely and positive manner.
  34. Maintain and submit reports, records, and correspondence in a timely and accurate manner.
  35. Properly use and care for equipment and material resources of the school system and effectively supervise and monitor others in the care, maintenance, and use of equipment and materials.
  36. Use effective collaboration skills to work as a productive team member.
  37. Serve on school system committees, task forces, and representative groups as required.
  38. Adhere to school system rules, administrative procedures, local Board policies, and state, federal, and local regulations.
  39. Report absences and take leave in accordance with Board policies and procedures.
  40. Perform any other job-related duties as assigned by the Supervisor(s).
Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, and use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, equipment, or controls. The employee frequently is required to talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, bend, stoop, squat, crouch, and kneel. The employee must occasionally lift, push, pull, carry, and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include near vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Salary and Benefits

Salary to be established by The Limestone County School's District Salary Schedule.
