Job Description Summary

As a Quality Assurance Lead at BD, you will be responsible for overseeing and contributing to all aspects of quality assurance, including applying industry best practices, developing new testing solutions and methods, and establishing metrics. You will lead the Quality Control laboratory team by assigning daily tasks, including product startups, in-process and final inspections, review of device history records and incoming inspection forms.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and perform independent incoming, in-process, and final inspection of textile raw materials and subassemblies to determine/ensure compliance to specifications.
  • Operate test equipment, including Thickness Gages, Balance/Scales, Skein Winders, Mullen Burst Testers, MTS Tensile Testers, Autodyn, Rulers, and Laser Micrometer.
  • Implement critical knowledge transfer and communication processes with all quality and operation teams.
  • Lead team of Quality Inspectors to maintain work area and equipment in clean, safe and orderly condition.
  • Inspect product labeling and packaging.
  • Responsible for maintaining inventory of various Quality related supplies.
  • Prepare test samples for fiber ID testing of incoming raw materials.
  • Maintain and file receiving inspection, work in process and finished product DHR records.
  • Assist with Quality documentation retention process.
  • Reviews lot history folders for final lot release sign off.
  • JDE data entry.
  • Perform activities related to Material and Chemical Expiration date reviews, testing and documentation.
  • Assist in writing inspection and test procedures and other documents relevant to incoming/receiving inspection, work in process, finished product and Lot Release.
  • Support Quality Manager/Quality Engineer with data collection, review, training requirements.
  • Assist with Deviations, MRN's, SCAR's, CAPA's and other quality related processes, improvements and investigations.
  • Takes an active role in the implementation and daily meetings in the Tier I/II process as required.
  • Works closely with other area leads to ensure smooth and efficient workflow throughout the entire manufacturing and quality processes.
  • Participates in safety and GxP assessments.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to successfully work in a team-oriented environment.
  • Ability to lead and make sound decisions regarding product quality versus specification.
  • Ability to perform math functions/formulas, use conversion charts, and understanding of basic statistics and significant digits.
  • Ability to use linear measuring devices, dial indicators, tensile testers, balances/scales, stitch counters and yarn testers.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft applications (ex. MS Word, MS Excel, etc.).
  • Knowledge of Quality standards and AQL sampling plans.

Education/Experience:

  • Associate degree in sciences or relative discipline or High School Graduate with at least 5 years Quality experience in a production facility or quality control laboratory.
  • Experience in a GMP/ISO or Mil Spec environment preferred.
  • Experience with textiles a plus.
  • ASQ certification a plus.

Physical Demands:

Occasionally requires light physical effort as in periods of prolonged standing, sitting at inspection stations, bending/squatting and/or occasional lifting of light items (i.e., up to 50 lbs.).

Ability to handle monofilament and multifilament yarn.

Dexterity to handle small items for inspections as braided and tubular knitted subassemblies (ranging from 2mm in diameter).

May require some exposure to chemicals used in manufacturing and testing processes.
