Sterile Processing Director Job Description

Centra Health is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Sterile Processing Director to lead our Sterile Processing operations at Lynchburg General Hospital and Virginia Baptist Hospital.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage the departmental budget and direct reports, including supervisors and managers.
  • Ensure departmental regulatory compliance using AAMI, AORN, and IAHCSMM Standards.
  • Facilitate, coordinate, and delegate the processing and delivery of sterile instruments and equipment.
  • Serve as Centra's SME on committees or task forces in support of DR/BC.
  • Maintain departmental policies, keeping them current with Standards, practice, and processes.
  • Consistently follow National Standards and Recommended Practice for Sterilization.
  • Work cooperatively with administrators, physicians, staff, other managers, and all customers of the Centra Healthcare System.
  • Develop and implement strategies to provide the highest level of quality, safety, and service within the organization.
  • Deliver services that consistently meet and exceed customer expectations.
  • Effectively manage budgets and inventory, including instrumentation, equipment, and supplies.
  • Cultivate positive relationships with Leadership staff and Vendors within the Centra organization.
  • Collaborate with Infection Prevention, Nursing Leadership, and Physician Leadership teams.
  • Provide strategies, leadership, and guidance to recruiting teams and leaders in the department.
  • Foster staff and team engagement.
  • Promote a capable staff that provides services to maintain and continuously improve productivity and seek opportunities to decrease costs.
Qualifications:
  • Required Education: Bachelor's Degree in Healthcare Management or a related field.
  • Preferred Education: Master's Degree in Healthcare Management or a related field.
  • Required Experience: Minimum of five (5) years of Sterile Processing experience. Proficient in MS Office, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Demonstrated knowledge of Project Management, Six Sigma, Organizational Behavior, and Change Management.
  • Preferred Experience: Minimum of two (2) years of Sterile Processing management experience.
  • Required Certifications and Licensures: IAHCSMM CRCST Certification within one (1) year of hire.
  • Preferred Certifications and Licensures: CIS, CHL Certification. Six Sigma Black Belt Certification.
