Job Responsibilities:
  • Diagnoses and repairs complex mechanical issues under general supervision.
  • Conducts inspections and identifies problems on all assigned transit vehicles and equipment.
  • Performs maintenance and repairs on all assigned vehicles and related mechanical equipment.
  • Executes preventative maintenance inspections as mandated by federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Implements upgrades and modifications to vehicle systems and equipment.
  • Responds to road calls and performs on-site repairs as necessary.
  • Guides and oversees the work of junior mechanics within the team.
  • Maintains a clean and organized workspace.
  • Completes additional tasks as required.
Qualifications: Education: High school diploma or equivalent (GED). Must be at least 21 years old and possess a Commercial Driving License with passenger and airbrake endorsements. Preferred Education: Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certifications are advantageous, with Master Mechanic certification being a plus. Experience: A minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in heavy-duty transit equipment repair and maintenance is required. Essential Skills:
  • Strong written and verbal communication abilities
  • Comprehensive understanding of mechanical systems related to transit vehicles
  • Capability to interpret safety rules, operating instructions, and maintenance manuals
  • Proficiency in reading blueprints, schematics, and mechanical diagrams
  • Ability to document work accurately and efficiently
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail
  • Ability to assist and monitor the work of others for accuracy
