Occupational Therapist Job Description

Advocate Aurora Health is seeking a skilled Occupational Therapist to join our team in Des Plaines, Illinois. As an Occupational Therapist, you will play a vital role in helping patients achieve their goals and improve their quality of life.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Evaluate patients' physical, perceptual, cognitive, social, and vocational abilities to develop effective treatment plans.
  • Implement individualized treatment plans using various techniques and modalities to enhance patients' functional independence.
  • Provide and/or fabricate assistive devices and/or splints to support patients' daily activities.
  • Monitor and evaluate patient outcomes, adjusting treatment plans as needed, and providing status updates to physicians.
  • Identify factors affecting patients' physical and psychosocial comfort and address these needs.
  • Plan for and complete patient discharge, including providing written home programs, patient/family teaching, referral for community services, and ordering equipment.
  • Complete all required documentation, including patient progress notes, team conference reports, discharge summaries, and records patient care and progress.
Requirements:
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) within 6 months.
  • Occupational Therapist license issued by the state of Wisconsin.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Therapy.
  • No experience required.
Working Conditions:

The Occupational Therapist will work in a fast-paced environment, interacting with patients, families, and healthcare teams. The position requires the ability to sit, stand, walk, lift, and squat throughout the workday. The Occupational Therapist must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. from floor to waist, lift up to 10 lbs. from waist to overhead, and lift and carry up to 40 lbs. at waist height a reasonable distance.

The Occupational Therapist will be exposed to electrical and chemical hazards as well as blood and body fluids, requiring the ability to wear protective clothing as needed. The position may require travel, exposing the Occupational Therapist to road and weather hazards.

The Occupational Therapist will operate all equipment necessary to perform the job, including modalities, exercise equipment, and other devices.
