The Event Beverage Specialist is tasked with delivering a diverse selection of both non-alcoholic and alcoholic drinks, including beer, wine, signature cocktails, and mixed beverages for upscale social events and weddings. This position operates under the general supervision of the Catering Captain, allowing for some degree of independent decision-making.
Compensation: $18.50 per hour
Key Responsibilities:
- Serve alcoholic beverages in accordance with all relevant Virginia ABC regulations.
- Maintain the bar with adequate supplies of glassware, ice, non-alcoholic drinks, beer, wine, and spirits.
- Set up and stock cocktail hour satellite bars as required.
- Prepare fruit garnishes and ensure cocktail napkins and stirrers are available.
- Open, pour, and serve bottled beer and wine.
- Craft and serve a variety of standard catering mixed drinks.
- Prepare and present signature cocktails.
- Engage with guests to discuss drink ingredients and offer recommendations for various beverages and cocktails.
- Coordinate table-side wine service and champagne toasts.
- Verify that guests consuming alcohol are of legal age and are drinking responsibly.
- Conduct post-event clean-up, including restocking beverages, returning unused glassware to storage, disposing of garnishes and bar waste, wiping down surfaces, and cleaning the area behind the bar.
- Perform additional tasks as assigned by management.
Essential Qualifications:
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- Ability to efficiently prepare and serve a high volume of drink orders.
- Familiarity with current sanitation standards and a commitment to maintaining these standards.
- Basic understanding of alcohol service and mixed drink preparation.
- Physical strength and dexterity to perform all required tasks, including the ability to lift up to 50 lbs, stoop, and bend.
- Strong communication and customer service skills.
- Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including early mornings, late nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Capability to handle various duties, including cleaning and custodial tasks.
- Possession of or ability to obtain a valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Possession of or ability to acquire necessary licenses or certifications, including TIPs Alcohol certifications.
- Required to purchase and wear a standard uniform.
