Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Public Health Nutritionist Supervisor to join our team at the Florida Department of Health in DeSoto County. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for overseeing the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) program, providing nutrition assessment and counseling to WIC participants, and ensuring compliance with federal, state, and county rules and regulations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee the WIC program, including planning, promoting, coordinating, implementing, and evaluating the program countywide.
  • Provide nutrition assessment and counseling to WIC participants, including determining nutrition risk/eligibility criteria and preparing high-risk care plans as needed.
  • Monitor the WIC program to ensure compliance with federal, state, and county rules and regulations, including analyzing public health statistics and community needs to develop nutrition objectives and project priorities.
  • Recruit, employ, assign, and manage WIC program personnel, including recommending transfers, promotions, and separation from service.
  • Assure ongoing training for employees and plan and direct work for professional and para-professional nutrition staff and other support staff.
  • Coordinate, oversee, and evaluate the WIC breastfeeding and peer counselor programs, including providing breastfeeding support to women during the prenatal and postpartum period.
  • Assist with the integration of WIC services with other county health department programs and community agencies, including participating in the formulation of policies and procedures.
Requirements
  • Bachelor of Science degree or master's degree in Nutritional Sciences, Community Nutrition, Clinical Nutrition, Dietetics, Public Health Nutrition, or Home Economics with emphasis in Nutrition.
  • Valid State of Florida License as a Dietitian/Nutritionist issued by the Division of Medical Quality Assurance.
  • 1-3 years' experience working as a registered dietician.
  • Knowledge of the science and current practice of nutrition or dietetics, including knowledge of nutritional and dietary assessment techniques and methods of compiling, organizing, and analyzing data.
  • Skill in Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and computer navigation, as well as skill in determining nutrition-related needs of clients and how to respond to those needs.
  • Ability to use various communication channels to provide education/training to audiences of varying literacy and comprehension levels, as well as ability to perform supervisory duties, including recruitment, training, discipline, and timely approval of Employee Activity Records and timesheets.
