Radiation Oncology Physicist Job Description

Piedmont HealthCare is seeking a highly skilled Radiation Oncology Physicist to join our team. As a key member of our radiation safety and quality assurance team, you will be responsible for ensuring the safe and effective delivery of radiation therapy treatments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform external beam radiotherapy treatment planning, including dose calculations and patient data generation.
  • Obtain and document dosimetry information for physical parameters on treatment units.
  • Coordinate and perform computerized treatment plans for external beam therapy.
  • Review all aspects of treatment planning and perform quality assurance and radiation safety measures.
  • Participate in Gamma Knife treatment, including image acquisitions and structure localization.
  • Implement quality assurance and radiation safety measures with regard to each patient's treatment.
  • Perform quality control functions, including accelerator and Gamma Knife quality assurance, chart checks, and dosimetry measurements.
  • Verify prescriptions and work with simulation therapists to ensure good simulation/CT techniques and results.
  • Consult with radiation oncologists to solve dosimetric problems and devise special techniques necessary for treatment.

Requirements:

  • Masters of Science in Medical Physics or related discipline.
  • Three years of clinical experience in a radiation therapy department or completion of a CAMPEP-approved residency program.
  • Ability to be listed as an authorized medical physicist on a radioactive material license in the State of Georgia.
  • Completion of Part I of the certification exam by the American Board of Radiology in Radiation Therapy Physics and active pursuit of ABR certification when eligible.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of current trends in the field of medical physics.
  • Good written and oral communication skills.
