Job Overview

Thompson Engineering is seeking a highly skilled Civil Project Engineer to join our team in Mobile, AL. As a licensed Civil Engineer, you will be responsible for planning and conducting work that requires detailed knowledge, judgment, and technical capabilities in the independent evaluation, selection, and adaptation of standard techniques and procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assure all engineering work performed by individuals or under your direct supervision adheres to good engineering practice.
  • Handle preliminary design studies, project planning, layouts, and other activities that lead to the engineering of a project.
  • Consult with clients, other engineers, architects, vendors, and others as necessary to determine the most practical and desirable engineering design in keeping with the budget.
  • Prepare design criteria for engineering projects and equipment.
  • Select suitable materials and equipment in accordance with good engineering practices.
  • Prepare accurate estimates of planning, design work, and other resources necessary to engineer a project.
  • Write specifications for materials and equipment in a clear, concise manner.
  • Anticipate information needed and take necessary action to obtain it.
  • Prepare detailed engineering designs in accordance with good engineering practice, including cost estimates and schedules, and in compliance with all applicable codes, regulations, and restrictions.
  • Organize, schedule, and supervise the work of others to make the most efficient use of personnel and the allotted budget.
  • Effectively handle complex civil design and water resources projects and efficiently utilize various company resources to accomplish the intended work.
  • Coordinate, supervise, check, and assume responsibility for all work done under your direction, including Engineer Associates, Designers, Drafters, and Technicians working on a project for which you are the Engineer of Record.
  • Coordinate work with that of other designers, architects, estimators, purchasing personnel, management, and others involved in the project.
  • Complete work on time and within the allotted budget and resource estimate.
  • Market Thompson Companies' services to current and potential clients and participate in business development activities, providing completed project write-ups and updated resume information as requested.
  • Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing with clients, regulators, public officials, team members, and the public.
  • Follow Company policies and procedures regarding safety and quality.
  • Attend work on time and regularly.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited institution (exempt for those who have passed the registration exam).
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer.
  • Minimum of five years of engineering experience, plus proficiency with Civil 3D software.
  • Demonstrated capability to perform at this level.
  • Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
