Collections Management Technician

CMA Co is seeking a highly skilled Collections Management Technician to support a 16-month collection inventory project focused on the Museum's works on paper holdings, specifically prints and drawings.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Support the item-level inventory of approximately 27,000 artworks by working directly with collection material in storage.
  • Confirm object location, perform cursory condition assessments, update archival storage housing, and support overall collection reorganization and consolidation.
  • Work closely and collaboratively with additional members of the Collections Management department, Conservation, and Curatorial teams.
  • Support data entry and resolve collection conundrums surfaced by the inventory process.
Requirements and Key Competencies:
  • An Associate's degree (A.A.) required; Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from a four-year college or university with coursework in Studio Art, focusing on drawing and printmaking, preferred.
  • At least one year of experience working in a museum or gallery setting, handling fine art collections or rare and valuable paper collections, with a focus on prints and drawings, preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of conservation handling guidelines and materials and techniques of works of art, including prints and drawings.
  • Mental focus, fine hand skills, and attention to detail necessary for carrying out preparatory work to highest quality museum standards.
  • Occasional lifting and/or moving up to 30 pounds; reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities.
  • Flexible mindset and professional demeanor, with ability to interact with all levels of museum staff and the public.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents, write routine reports, and speak effectively before groups.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and data management systems.
