Key Responsibilities:- Perform technical duties in all operating room specialty service areas, ensuring proper technical practices according to accepted standards.
- Provide maintenance, assembly, handling, and sterilization techniques for specialty equipment.
- Follow aseptic techniques and identify any contamination or breaks, implementing corrective actions.
- Conduct surgical counts and follow procedures for incorrect counts, reporting discrepancies.
- Label drugs and solutions and monitor quantities used.
- Assist in the identification, preparation, handling, and labeling of surgical specimens.
- Participate actively in the planning and setup of instruments, supplies, and surgical drapes in an organized manner for optimal accessibility during procedures.
- Assist surgeons by understanding the patient's anatomy and abnormalities affecting the surgical procedure.
- Aid in case picking and planning instrument needs.
- Modify scrubbing procedures based on pertinent information and communicate with the surgical team.
- Respond to surgical emergencies and follow hospital-wide emergency management plans.
- Inventory, receive, and store supplies under the direction of Surgical Services leadership.
- Identify and report defective instruments, supplies, and equipment.
- Assist with restocking operating/procedure rooms and sub-sterile areas.
- Assist the registered nurse during the intraoperative implementation phase of nursing practice.
- Operate complex equipment and other resources in the operating room, troubleshooting as necessary.
- Serve as a mentor for Surgical Technician Trainees and occasionally as a preceptor.
