Key Responsibilities- Schedule appointments and greet patients and families, providing clear instructions for testing.
- Assist in monitoring quality improvement and the development/revision of neurodiagnostic procedures and standards, serving as a role model and resource to neurodiagnostic technologists.
- Perform complex electroencephalography (EEG) recordings, including routine and portable EEG, neonatal EEG, cortical silence EEG, and continuous bedside EEG monitoring, utilizing knowledge of EEG instrumentation and pattern recognition.
- Position patients and provide comfort by measuring and accurately applying electrodes in a timely manner according to the International 10-20 System.
- Perform 24-hour Ambulatory EEG, including editing of results, utilizing special training and expertise in the recognition of ictal and inter-ictal electrographic patterns.
- Write comprehensive patient histories by gathering information from patients, patient records, and/or family members, including audiological or neurological symptomatology and medications.
- Perform Brainstem Auditory Evoked Potential studies and Visual Evoked Potential studies, utilizing knowledge of audiologic instrumentation and pattern recognition.
- Assume responsibility for the safety and well-being of patients at all times, identifying and seeking assistance for any emergency events.
- Certification in Basic Life Support for all age groups and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation for all age groups.
- Eligibility for or successful completion of Part II (oral) examination for registration by ABRET (EEG and/or Evoked Potential) or completion of an equivalent examination.
- Registered Electroencephalographic Technologist (R.EEG.T) certification required, unless 10 years of Neurodiagnostic Technician experience.
- Licensure not required.
- Three years of experience in the Neurodiagnostic or a Neurophysiological field in an inpatient or office setting, with experience performing advanced EEG/evoked potential studies.
- High School or GED graduate from an accredited program for Electroneurodiagnostic Technology, with Registry as an R.EEG.T required.
