Job Summary:

The University of Florida seeks a distinguished academic leader to serve as the Chair and Professor of Environmental Horticulture. As a key member of the Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (IFAS), the successful candidate will provide vision, leadership, and strategic direction to the Department of Environmental Horticulture, fostering excellence in teaching, research, and extension.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership and strategic direction to the Department of Environmental Horticulture, aligning with the IFAS mission and goals.
  • Develop and implement departmental programs in teaching, research, and extension, ensuring alignment with the Land-Grant Mission.
  • Recruit, mentor, and develop faculty, staff, and students, promoting academic growth and professional development.
  • Administer human and financial resources, ensuring effective management and allocation.
  • Represent the department and IFAS in external forums, fostering partnerships and collaborations.

Requirements:

  • Earned doctorate in horticulture, plant science, agronomy, or a related discipline.
  • Record of outstanding scholarly achievement and professional activities in teaching, research, extension, and/or industry.
  • Ability to direct an academic department, leading interdisciplinary programs and managing resources.
  • Effective administrative leadership, managerial skills, and commitment to shared governance.
  • Strong commitment to undergraduate and graduate student recruitment and retention.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience in leading interdisciplinary programs and managing resources.
  • Strong commitment to international programs and collaborations.
  • Ability to interact well with students, faculty, staff, administrators, and external stakeholders.
