Director of Policy and Government Relations

The National Association for Family Child Care is seeking a highly skilled Director of Policy and Government Relations to join our team. This is a full-time position based in [location]. Job SummaryWe are looking for a seasoned policy professional with experience in centering an equity, inclusion, and justice framework in ongoing work and team development. The ideal candidate will have a deep commitment to NAFCC's mission and a proven track record of successfully leading policy agendas and strategies.
Key Responsibilities:- Lead the development and implementation of NAFCC's policy agenda, working closely with the leadership team and stakeholders to advance family child care interests at multiple levels of government.
- Analyze trends, forecast potential impacts, and develop comprehensive policy strategies to promote high-quality home-based early learning programs.
- Build and maintain relationships with key policy actors and influencers, representing NAFCC in policy forums, events, and webinars.
- Collaborate with research and data projects to provide insight from a policy perspective and inform evidence-based policy development.
- Provide training and public education on policy issues to diverse audiences and develop written materials such as policy briefs, fact sheets, and talking points.
- A minimum of a Bachelor's (BA) degree in a relevant field, such as public policy, education, or a related field.
- At least 5 years of policy experience, with a proven track record of successfully leading policy agendas and strategies.
- Familiarity with legislative processes and government relations, including national and state-level child care regulations.
- Excellent analytical, research, and writing skills, with the ability to articulate complex ideas and policies into easy-to-understand language.
- Strong project management and problem-solving skills, with the ability to adapt strategies to meet evolving needs and ensure successful outcomes.
- Ability to travel up to 30% of the time representing NAFCC in conferences and legislative/policy engagements.
- Fluency in English and Spanish is preferred, but not required.
