Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Ophthalmic Tech 3 to join our team at the University of Rochester. This is a critical role that requires a strong understanding of ophthalmic principles and techniques, as well as excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform complex technical assignments, including diagnostic testing and imaging, under the supervision of a physician.
  • Conduct patient screenings, gather necessary information, and perform initial assessments.
  • Obtain and perform various ocular measurements, including visual acuity, intraocular pressure, and corneal topographies.
  • Perform specialized visual acuity testing, including potential acuity meter (PAM), laser interferometry (LI), and brightness acuity tester (BAT).
  • Provide basic contact lens knowledge and insertion/removal techniques, as well as contact lens care.
  • Perform clinical-clerical office duties, including scheduling, request forms, printing up results, and ordering contact lenses.
  • Stock rooms according to practice needs.
Requirements
  • High school diploma required.
  • 1 year of closely related clinical experience or training/coursework in optometry, ophthalmology, or a related field required.
  • Preferred knowledge, skills, and abilities: CPR or obtain CPR certification, ocular anatomy and physiology, basic tonometry, ophthalmic equipment maintenance, and simple repairs.
  • Understanding of ocular injuries and urgent care, as well as basic ocular pharmacology knowledge of drops and medications used for eye examinations.
