Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Ophthalmic Technician to join our team at the University of Rochester. As an Ophthalmic Technician, you will play a critical role in providing high-quality patient care and supporting our physicians in the diagnosis and treatment of eye diseases.

Key Responsibilities:

Perform complex technical assignments, including visual acuity testing, prism measurements, and manifest refractions.

Measure intraocular pressure using a tonopen, Goldmann tonometer, or Perkins tonometer.

Conduct basic slit lamp examinations and check anterior chamber depth using the slit lamp.

Take external ocular measurements, including keratometry, exopthalmometry, and levator measurements.

Perform intermediate color vision screening using Ishihara or HRR plates and D-15 color chips.

Insert and remove contact lenses, and teach patients insertion and removal techniques and contact lens care.

Assist physicians with documentation of patient medical records and transcribe impressions and plans.

Perform clerical and information technology functions, including operation of electronic health records software.

Train other technologists and provide support for certification exams.

Requirements:

High school diploma required.

1-2 years of closely related clinical experience or training/coursework in optometry, ophthalmology, or a related field required.

Certification by the registry of the Joint Commission of Allied Health in Personnel Ophthalmology or other nationally recognized professional certifying body required.
