Position Overview

The Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago is looking for a committed professional to manage the operation and upkeep of heavy mobile machinery at designated locations. This role involves overseeing a range of responsibilities related to the equipment utilized in our operations.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Oversee the operation and maintenance of heavy machinery, including but not limited to cranes, excavators, and locomotives.
  • Plan and coordinate work schedules, conduct equipment inspections, and assess maintenance requirements.
  • Lead a team of personnel, providing training and ensuring compliance with safety standards.
  • Order necessary materials and maintain precise records of all job-related activities.
  • Work collaboratively with various departments to enhance operational efficiency.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Engage with team members to clarify job specifications.
  • Perform Hoisting Engineer duties as required.
  • Request tools and supplies as necessary.
  • Monitor and manage timesheets and vacation schedules.
  • Carry out other assigned responsibilities as needed.

Qualifications

  • Extensive knowledge of heavy machinery operation and maintenance.
  • Basic proficiency in computer applications.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills.
  • Ability to effectively follow directives.

Requirements

A valid Class A or Class B Commercial Driver's License with air brakes endorsement is mandatory.

Minimum Qualifications

A high school diploma or equivalent, coupled with six years of relevant experience, including at least two years as a Hoisting Engineer, or a comparable combination of experience and training.

Substitution Policy

Additional relevant experience may be considered in lieu of formal educational qualifications.

Promotional Criteria

  • At least one year of service as a Hoisting Engineer within the District.
  • Civil service status as a Hoisting Engineer.
