Spiritual Care Department Manager

Job Summary:
The Spiritual Care Department Manager is responsible for planning, administering, and managing the activities and staff of the Spiritual Care Department at Alameda Health System. This includes managing chaplains, delegating work, scheduling staff, evaluating performance, developing policies and procedures, and maintaining operational expenses within budget.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage a staff of chaplains, including hiring, training, performance evaluations, disciplinary actions, and terminations.
- Confer with staff chaplains regularly to support and evaluate professional development and assure quality of care.
- Conduct staff meetings and ensure chaplain coverage across the system.
- Perform other administrative managerial duties, including development of annual budget process and office management functions.
- Provide emotional, spiritual, and religious support to employees, patients, and visitors.
- Collaborate with members of the hospital care team to identify and address spiritual issues.
- Act as a liaison between patient, family, and hospital staff during times of spiritual crisis.
- Complete medical chart documentation for all patient and family visits.
Requirements:
- Graduate theological degree (or equivalent graduate degree) from an accredited institution and ordained/endorsed for health care chaplaincy by a recognized religious/spiritual body.
- Four CPE units preferred, good standing and endorsement from your religious/spiritual tradition.
- Completion of one or a combination of the following: 12 months or four quarters of an approved full-time resident clinical pastoral training program, three years prior experience as a chaplain, or one year prior experience as a manager/supervisor.
- Preferred experience: one year prior experience working in a hospital setting or working in palliative care.
- Preferred licenses/certification: membership in a National Professional Chaplain Organization.
- Required licenses/certification: board certified Chaplain through appropriate professional organization, or certification eligible.
