Medical Support Specialist

Job Summary: We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Patient Care Coordinator to join our team at Weill Cornell Medical College. The successful candidate will provide clinical support to physicians, including taking patient vitals, performing phlebotomy, and facilitating patient flow through the office visit.
Key Responsibilities:
- Initiate and prepare written correspondence as needed and based on functional needs.
- Answer phones, respond to inquiries, and triage calls to appropriate personnel.
- Take patient vitals and blood pressure.
- Perform phlebotomy duties.
- Coordinate the collection of samples/specimens and submission to labs.
- Ensure cleanliness of exam rooms and sterilization of medical instruments.
- Set up instruments and equipment prior to patient visit.
- Maintain medical-supply inventories and escalate supply requests.
- Check dated materials and medications for expiration and discard expired items.
- Enter clinical patient information into the electronic medical record system.
- Obtain diagnostic reports or hospital notes for the patients' record.
- Generate after-visit summaries.
- Oversee the charting process to ensure that information is updated completely and accurately.
- Register patients within the practice management system.
- Confirm patient appointments.
- Coordinate and schedule laboratory and diagnostic tests.
- Verify patient insurance eligibility and obtain necessary pre-authorization numbers, if required, prior to appointment date.
- Facilitate the communication and collection of any fees due from patient.
Requirements:
- High School Diploma.
- Prior experience in a patient-facing clinical setting and knowledge of medical terminology.
- Completion of a medical assistant training course that includes phlebotomy training is highly desired.
- Candidates with extensive medical assistant work experience, along with phlebotomy experience, may be considered.
Working Conditions/Physical Demands: Standard office work; may require from time to time to lift light to moderate amounts of weight (e.g., boxes of medical/facility supplies).
