Job Summary

We are seeking a Medical Support Specialist to join our team at our plasma donation facility in the Bronx, NYC. As a Medical Support Specialist, you will be responsible for determining donor eligibility, managing donor adverse events, and reviewing laboratory test results. You will work under the direct supervision of the Center Manager and under the supervision of the Center Physician for medical issues.

Key Responsibilities
  • Determine donor eligibility accurately and in a timely manner, including proper management of informed consent, AIDS education, and confidential self-exclusion.
  • Evaluate and manage donor reaction(s) that occur at the facility, following applicable SOPs.
  • Manage donor deferral, reviewing test results and notifying donors of unsuitable test results per applicable SOPs.
  • Initiate and investigate Post Donation Information (PDI).
  • Refer to the Center Physician or Medical Affairs when in need of providing unacceptable findings to donors, problem-solving, or guidance concerning medical or technical issues.
  • Demonstrate continued competency in the performance of job responsibilities and complete periodic assessment with the Center Physician per applicable SOPs.
Requirements
  • Currently licensed or certified in the state where duties will be assigned: Licensed Practical or Vocational Nurse (LPN or LVN).
  • Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and AED certification required.
  • Fulfillment of state requirements (in state of licensure) for basic IV therapy.
  • Able to satisfactorily complete the FDA approved training requirements for BioLife Medical Support Specialist.
  • Minimum of two years in a clinical or hospital setting preferred.
