Position Title: TRANSPORTATION SPECIALIST

Department: OPERATIONS/DRIVERS

Reports to: ROUTE SUPERVISOR

Position Summary:

As a Transportation Specialist, you will be accountable for operating a tractor-trailer in compliance with DOT regulations and company protocols to facilitate the exchange and collection of loaded trailers at designated client sites. You may also be required to assist with the loading and unloading of cargo as per customer requests. Adherence to DOT guidelines for load balancing and securement is essential. The role involves providing basic customer service related to delivery matters and assisting in resolving any issues that may arise.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct thorough pre-and post-trip inspections of the vehicle, including checking tire pressure, fluid levels, safety equipment, and operational controls.
  • Operate company vehicles in accordance with DOT and company safety standards.
  • Maintain communication with the Route Supervisor regarding route status and any customer service inquiries.
  • Monitor vehicle indicators and ensure that all scheduled maintenance tasks are completed.
  • Complete assigned route pick-ups efficiently.
  • Operate hydraulic systems as required.
  • Ensure compliance with DOT load securement regulations.
  • Maintain cleanliness of the truck and trailer as necessary.
  • Adhere to all safety policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrate the ability to operate various types of vehicles and equipment safely in diverse weather conditions.
  • Report any incidents, accidents, injuries, or property damage to the Route Manager.
  • Notify the Route Manager or Dispatch of any service interruptions, including blocked containers or potential safety hazards.
  • Possess knowledge of recycling material classifications and grades.
  • Understand commingled collection processes and acceptable materials.
  • Familiarity with proper DOT loading, transportation, and shipping procedures for commodities.
  • Exhibit the physical capability to perform job duties.
  • Hold a valid Commercial Driver's License and maintain a safe driving record.
  • Ability to lift up to 75 lbs.
  • Flexibility to work varied schedules as needed.
  • Comply with all company policies as outlined in the Employee Handbook.
  • Perform additional job-related tasks as assigned.

Hiring Requirements/Preferences:

· Minimum age of 21 years

· Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent

· Must meet the minimum qualifications outlined by the company for drivers

· Possess a valid Class A CDL with Airbrake endorsement

· At least one year of CDL driving experience or a verifiable record of 150,000 log miles

· Strong work ethic
  • Must meet or exceed DOT medical standards.
  • Ability to follow directions accurately.
  • Capable of performing essential job functions, including heavy lifting and prolonged sitting.
  • Must meet all qualifications as defined under DOT regulation 49 CFR 383.51 as verified by a current MVR/driver abstract.
· Ability to maintain driver logs

· Capability to identify and maintain equipment maintenance needs

· Ability to work in extreme temperatures and availability for weekend shifts

· Pass a pre-employment "Fit for Work" physical examination

· Provide valid documentation for I-9 Immigration verification

· Professional demeanor and conduct

· Skills in multi-tasking, communication, problem-solving, and time management

· High level of safety awareness and discipline

· Maintain a courteous and professional attitude towards co-workers, supervisors, and the public

· Willingness to travel and work away from home as required

· Flexibility to work nights and weekends when necessary

· Strict adherence to safety protocols and company policies as outlined in the Employee Handbook

· Willingness to collaborate in a team environment and assist colleagues as needed

· Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) in designated areas as required by safety regulations

· Adaptability to the evolving needs of the business to meet customer demands

· Participation in random and suspicion drug testing

· Successful completion of a drug screen and background check is required for employment
