Job Overview

Position Summary:

The Quality Assurance Engineer will oversee product development from initial concept to final delivery across a diverse range of turbomachinery applications. This role involves significant contributions to design for assembly, risk mitigation testing at the component level, and comprehensive performance evaluations of turbine and electric motor-driven turbomachinery utilizing both compressible and incompressible fluids. Environmental assessments, including thermal and pressure testing, as well as shock and vibration analysis, are integral to this position. Effective coordination is essential, requiring collaboration with various stakeholders, including internal teams, customers, and external vendors across multiple projects of varying complexity.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Establish processes and documentation to support assembly and testing in accordance with internal and customer specifications.

a. Analyze standard testing requirements to create essential documentation for assembly and testing.

b. Develop and distribute instrumentation lists and diagrams to ensure accurate test setups.

c. Formulate a data acquisition strategy and configure software to accurately capture test results.

d. Identify and procure specialized testing or assembly tools and software as needed.

e. Evaluate customer specifications and provide insights on product testability.

f. Estimate preliminary costs for requested testing activities.

2. Create and implement procedures to verify and validate product requirements, ensuring timely delivery of high-quality outcomes.

a. Draft, review, and finalize technical instructions to provide clear guidance for assembly and testing in line with customer needs and company standards.

b. Develop comprehensive test plans detailing procedures, entry criteria, expected outcomes, and timelines.

c. Document test results in a clear and concise manner for presentation to project management, engineering teams, and clients.

d. Troubleshoot and resolve issues when tests do not meet performance criteria, adjusting conditions or processes as necessary.

e. Identify and report daily safety, quality, and delivery concerns during status meetings.

3. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure effective communication and data transfer to meet customer expectations and organizational goals.

a. Work with design teams to create custom test loop components as required.

b. Partner with procurement to ensure timely identification and acquisition of necessary parts and equipment.

c. Engage with strategic sourcing to identify and qualify vendors for external testing services.

d. Coordinate with vendors to ensure testing timelines are adhered to.

e. Collaborate with engineering to ensure that work instructions, drawings, and test plans are accurate and released on time.

f. Confirm that testing gauges and equipment are calibrated and in optimal condition to guarantee test quality.

g. Lead readiness reviews with project management, engineering, production, and quality teams to ensure all aspects are prepared for testing.

h. Conduct technical and safety reviews prior to testing to maintain product quality and employee safety.

4. Implement test plans to validate products while adhering to project schedules.

a. Review requirements and work instructions with technicians to clarify expectations and ensure understanding.

b. Execute tests according to established plans or collaborate with designated personnel to perform testing.

c. Supervise external vendor testing to ensure compliance with specified requirements.

d. Verify the accuracy and safety of the test loop to ensure all requirements are met.

e. Address assembly issues and escalate to engineering and management as necessary.

f. Mentor and train assembly technicians on best practices.

5. Drive continuous improvement in procedures and processes to achieve zero defects.

a. Identify and document lessons learned with the project engineering team to foster ongoing improvement.

b. Ensure that all lessons learned are integrated into work instructions to enhance product quality and processes.

c. Highlight areas for improvement related to safety, quality, delivery, and cost, and escalate to management.

d. Provide insights to support the expansion of internal testing capabilities and capital improvements.

e. Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance departmental performance.

Qualifications:

Education:

· Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field with relevant experience in a high-aptitude manufacturing environment.

Experience:

· Minimum of two years in a complex testing environment.

· Experience troubleshooting rotating equipment.

· Proven track record with new product testing campaigns.

· Experience leading design efforts for test loops, including P&ID and test plan creation.

· Familiarity with multiple testing standards, including MIL-STD-810, CE, ATEX, and NASA.

· Experience managing testing within budget constraints and tight schedules.

Desired Qualifications:

· Familiarity with recognized quality systems (ISO, AS, QS, TS).

· Proficiency in SolidWorks design.
