Job Overview

The Vice President of Surgical Services is entrusted with the comprehensive oversight of operational, financial, and administrative functions within the North Region. This role is pivotal in steering the service line and managing patient and unit populations to achieve established, evidence-based outcomes. It is essential to ensure that clinical care across all locations adheres to both North Region and industry benchmarks.

In collaboration with the Executive Sponsor and Physician Executive partners, the Vice President will strategize and implement the Service Line vision, enhancing the service line's influence throughout the Region. This position requires a partnership with physician, nursing, and administrative leadership to foster consistency and improvements in clinical outcomes, patient and provider experiences, growth, and financial performance in alignment with the system's Service Line strategy. The Vice President will also work closely with regional and entity leaders to promote integration and standardization, ensuring a cohesive approach to service delivery.

Key Responsibilities
  • Formulate and implement a standardized operational model and strategy across the region. (10%)
  • Lead a dedicated team to enhance the performance of the Service Line, meeting organizational and Service Line objectives (safety, quality outcomes, experience, resource utilization, revenue, and growth). (25%)
  • Collaborate with physician dyad leadership to oversee and support physician practice, growth, performance, and academic/research initiatives within the Service Line. (10%)
  • Identify and establish frameworks to nurture strong relationships among physicians, nursing leadership, administrative leaders, and other service line team members throughout the region. (5%)
  • Optimize clinical programs and services region-wide, including the development of consistent scorecards to monitor performance (quality, patient experience, personnel, growth, efficiency, profitability). (10%)
  • Work with physician and administrative leadership to determine the best strategy for asset allocation in accordance with the Service Line strategy. (10%)
  • Collaborate with Medical Group, Quality & Experience, and System Services leadership to pinpoint and implement opportunities for consistency in clinical and administrative practices across the region (staffing, care protocols, access systems, etc.). (10%)
  • Develop and disseminate performance metrics to identify areas for improvement within the service line and facilitate the transfer of best practices across the region. (10%)
  • Assess operational and capital investments necessary to support service line priorities across the region and advance requests through appropriate approval channels. (10%)

Educational Background

Master's degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, Nursing, or a related healthcare field.

Licensure and Certification

Professional Experience

Ten (10) years of relevant experience in healthcare operations, with at least five (5) years in a leadership role.

Experience specific to clinical areas is essential.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.

• Demonstrated leadership, planning, and quality improvement skills.
