Medical Assistant Professional

The Medical Assistant/Certified Medical Assistant plays a vital role in providing direct and indirect support to clinicians in delivering patient care. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for preparing exam rooms, charts, and patients for clinician visits. You will also perform or implement orders for diagnostic tests, administer medications (except IV), arrange outside referrals, and provide patient education under the supervision of a clinician when necessary.
Key Responsibilities- Escort patients to exam rooms, conduct patient interviews, and measure vital signs.
- Collect and record patient data, basic information about presenting and previous conditions, prepare exam rooms, and clean/stock rooms between patients.
- Ensure efficient patient flow by continuously assessing clinician schedules and collaborating with other staff to minimize waiting times.
- Prepare patients and assist clinicians with exams and procedures as needed, including positioning, draping, shaving, and disinfecting.
- Administer injections, including immunizations, after verification by an RN or clinician.
- Administer scheduled medications after verification by an RN or clinician.
- Perform diagnostic and laboratory tests, such as audiometry, EKG, spirometry, and CLIA-waived tests, according to SCHC competency standards and protocols.
- Collect non-invasive specimens for testing, including urine, sputum, semen, and stool.
- Perform age-appropriate screenings as needed or directed by clinicians, including visual acuity.
- Remove sutures and/or staples from superficial incisions or lacerations.
- Apply and remove bandages and dressings from superficial incisions or lacerations.
- Apply orthopedic appliances, such as knee immobilizers, envelope slings, orthotics, and similar devices.
- Select and adjust crutches and instruct patients on proper use.
- Perform ear lavage to remove impacted cerumen.
- Assist patients with ambulation and transfers.
- Cut nails of otherwise healthy patients.
- Provide patient information and instructions.
- Ensure all scanned documents contain patient identification.
- Perform end-of-shift tasks for room closure, clean equipment, and log off EHR, following SCHC standards for Universal Precautions.
- Collaborate with RN Coordinators or other staff to ensure clinicians see patients promptly.
- Schedule patients appropriately.
- Alert Center Manager or designated personnel to needed supplies/equipment.
- Report any safety hazards.
Competitive Salary: $22.50 - $24.90 per hour
