Maintenance Technician II: Green Infrastructure Specialist

Job Summary:
The City of Roanoke is seeking a skilled Maintenance Technician II to join the Green Infrastructure crew within the Stormwater Division. This role involves performing a variety of tasks, including operating heavy motorized equipment, maintaining rights-of-way, and operating commercial mowing equipment to maintain City flood lots and best management practices (BMPs).
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate tractor-trailer or other heavy construction equipment
- Perform skilled work in the maintenance of facilities and/or equipment
- Operate street sweeper, excavator, bulldozer, backhoe, heavy front-end loader, crane, and chipper
- Service and make minor repairs and adjustments on equipment
- Operate heavy and light equipment in snow removal
- Inspect equipment for proper safety and ensure that truck is equipped with all necessary equipment for the day's assignment
- Maintain accurate log sheets, checklists, and pre-trip sheets

Education and/or Experience:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and one to three years related experience and/or training in trades area assigned; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Working Conditions:
This is a non-exempt position that requires working in a fast-paced environment with frequent deadlines. The successful candidate must be able to work independently and as part of a team, and must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and stand for long periods of time.
