This is a unique opportunity to join the team at West Coast Animal Hospital as a Hybrid Veterinary Role, combining the responsibilities of a Veterinary Receptionist and a Veterinary Technician. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for providing exceptional client service and supporting the veterinarians in delivering high-quality patient care.
Responsibilities
- Client Service
- Provide exceptional client service, responding to client inquiries and concerns in a professional and empathetic manner.
- Manage client relationships, ensuring a positive experience for all clients.
- Process client payments, handle returns, and perform complex transactions.
- Veterinary Support
- Assist veterinarians with medical, surgical, and dental procedures.
- Prepare patients for surgery, monitor patients during surgery and recovery, and administer fluids.
- Perform advanced medical math and dose calculations.
- Administrative Tasks
- Prepare and maintain electronic medical records in accordance with hospital policy.
- Accurately maintain client and patient information in practice computer software.
- Prepare health certificates, immunization certificates, laboratory requests, and euthanasia consent forms.
- Education and Training
- Provide education and training to clients on animal care, including basic care questions and routine procedures.
- Assist in training and mentoring of other staff members.
- Emergency Procedures
- Recognize and respond to emergency procedures, including control of bleeding, resuscitation with oxygen, opening airways, and external cardiac massage (CPR).
- Perform ophthalmologic tests, including tonometry, tear test, and fluorescein stain.
- Physical and Working Conditions
- Work requires lifting and carrying animals (assisted by other staff members for animals over 40 lbs).
- Walks or stands for extended periods or time; frequently works in a bent position.
- May be exposed to unpleasant odors, noises, and animal feces.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Vocational school training desirable but not required.
- Previous on-the-job training/experience required.
- Minimum four years experience as a veterinary technician or assistant.
- Minimum of 18 years old.
- Be flexible in attitude and work habits.
- Knows how to pronounce, spell, and the meaning of commonly used veterinary terminology.
- Perform basic computer skills and typing, familiar with veterinary practice management software and vocabulary.
