We are currently looking for Purepecha Language Specialists to engage as freelance interpreters in a 1099 Independent Contractor capacity. In this role, you will play a vital part in enhancing language accessibility for all individuals, irrespective of their English proficiency. As an independent contractor, you will have the autonomy to manage your own schedule, determine your availability, and accept assignments that fit your personal timetable.
Assignments are typically available Monday through Friday, from 8 am to 5 pm.
Please note that while appointments are offered based on demand, they are not guaranteed.
The hourly compensation for interpreters varies based on factors such as availability, experience, and the demand for the Purepecha language.
Qualifications
Eligibility Criteria:
- Proficiency in both English and Purepecha, with a solid grasp of idiomatic expressions and cultural nuances.
- Prior experience in interpreting, particularly in medical, legal, or educational contexts, is preferred.
- Exemplary professionalism, punctuality, and flexibility in various work environments.
- Capability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team setting.
- Strong communication, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
- Basic operational skills for communication tools.
- Willingness to adapt to diverse settings and work conditions.
- Must reside in and be authorized to work in the United States (visa sponsorship is not available).
- A High School Diploma or equivalent; or certification in interpreting or related disciplines.

- Upon meeting the basic qualifications, you will complete a skills assessment and a background check.
- Qualified candidates will be invited to undergo the onboarding process to join our network of linguists.
