GENERAL OVERVIEW:
This role is designated exclusively for staffing agency personnel.
The Cardiovascular Technologist plays a crucial role in assisting with various procedures conducted in the invasive cardiology sector. This position is vital in ensuring a secure patient care environment that supports the diagnosis and treatment of individuals with cardiac conditions. The technologist is responsible for the maintenance and operation of physiological systems and engages in unit-based activities that foster a positive and professional atmosphere.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Embrace the mission, vision, and core values of the organization, demonstrating commitment consistently.
2. Assist during invasive cardiology procedures in the invasive lab, electrophysiology lab, ICU-CCU, and operating room.
3. Function in a scrub capacity by preparing, organizing, and anticipating necessary instruments, supplies, and equipment to ensure safe patient care and effective operative procedures.
4. May apply skin sealant and steri-strips post-surgery; however, will not perform incision closures.
5. Document and analyze clinical patient information; recognize and communicate arrhythmias; monitor arterial and/or venous pressure lines.
6. Assist in the movement of Cath lab imaging equipment under the supervision of the physician, effectively utilizing digital enhancement tools.
7. Demonstrate competencies and perform therapeutic interventions in line with Cath lab procedures, prioritizing risk management and infection control.
8. Assemble, operate, and troubleshoot equipment necessary for various procedures in the Invasive Cardiology Lab, taking appropriate actions as needed.
9. Assess the impact of Cath lab interventions on patient conditions and recognize progress towards desired outcomes.
10. Serve as a mentor to students in health professions, exemplifying professional standards.
11. Initiate communication with peers and healthcare team members regarding clinical care priorities.
12. Provide information to patients and families to alleviate anxiety and convey a caring, sensitive attitude.
13. May intubate patients in accordance with established procedures and within the scope of practice.
14. Report patient conditions to relevant parties, including physicians and nursing staff.
15. Employ problem-solving and conflict resolution skills to cultivate effective working relationships with colleagues.
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Candidates must possess at least one of the following qualifications:
- An Associate's degree in Cardiovascular Technology or a related health field, including Paramedic Medicine.
- Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) with a valid state license.
- Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist certification.
- Graduation from a radiologic technology program with current certification or eligibility for certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT), along with a valid state medical radiographer license. Cardiovascular or Vascular Interventional certification is preferred.
Prior experience in hemodynamic monitoring and ECG interpretation is preferred.
