We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Youth Services Librarian to join our team at Hernando County, FL. As a key member of our library staff, you will be responsible for planning, directing, and implementing outstanding programs and services for all library customers, with a special emphasis on those 18 and under.
Key Responsibilities- Plan, organize, implement, supervise, and evaluate services to youth.
- Participate in planning and contribute to the development of goals, policies, and procedures as relating to youth.
- Advocate for youth services with other community agencies.
- Initiate, plan, and conduct a variety of programs and activities to encourage the use of the library by young adults.
- Select, evaluate, maintain, and discard juvenile and young adult materials based on professional judgment, preferences of youth customers, and acknowledged review sources.
- Provide reference and readers' advisor services, and library orientation to youth of all ages.
- Collaborate with schools and other agencies to serve youth of the community.
- Promote, publicize, and represent youth services and the library to the community and local agencies in cooperation with other library departments.
- Integrate and use technology to assist young adults and to engage and involve them.
- Create an environment that attracts and invites young adults to use the facilities and collection.
- Identify, collect, and interpret statistics as needed.
- Master of Library Science Degree from an ALA accredited college or university.
- Two (2) years of experience working with the public.
- License, Certifications, or Registrations: Teaching Certificate preferred.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver's License and be insurable by current insurance carrier.
- Broad and current knowledge of youth literature, audio and visual materials, and electronic sources.
- Knowledge of the professional practices, procedures, and techniques of library service.
- Ability to plan and implement programs for youth.
Work is performed primarily in an office environment working closely with others. Some outside walking, standing, kneeling, bending, and stooping may occasionally be required in diverse environments.
Works in a safe and secure work environment that may periodically have unpredicted requirements or demands.
