As a key member of our team, you will play a vital role in facilitating small group interactions, deep discussions, and hands-on learning experiences in our physics labs.
Key Responsibilities- Assist Instructors: Provide instructional and grading support to our instructors, helping them to effectively deliver course material and assess student progress.
- Facilitate Learning: Use technology to assist students in completing their physics labs, help them safely and effectively use specialized scientific apparatuses, and facilitate small group interactions and deep discussions about theoretical and experimental physics phenomena.
- Support Student Success: Assist instructors with conceptual introductions, troubleshooting equipment malfunctions, and grading as necessary, ensuring that students receive the support they need to succeed.
- Attend Pre-Lab Meetings: Participate in weekly pre-lab meetings to discuss course material, address questions and concerns, and plan for upcoming lab sessions.
- Current University of La Verne Student: Must be a current student at the University of La Verne.
- Physics Sequence Completion: Successful completion of the Physics sequence 201/203 or 202/204 with a grade of B- or better.
- Interest in Physical Science: Demonstrated interest in physical science and a willingness to learn and apply new concepts.
- Commitment to Working Hours: Commitment to working both Fall and Spring semesters for a minimum of 5 hours/week.
- Effective Communication: Ability to communicate effectively and help students construct their own understandings of lab material.
- Dependability and Reliability: Demonstrated dependability and reliability, with a strong work ethic and a commitment to meeting deadlines.
- Paid Sick Leave: Eligibility for one hour of paid sick leave for every 30 hours worked, with a maximum accrual of 24 hours of paid sick leave per year and capped at 48 hours.
- University of La Verne Defined Contribution Retirement Plan: Eligibility to contribute to the University of La Verne Defined Contribution Retirement Plan, excluding wages derived from federal work-study funds.
- Medical Coverage: Eligibility for medical coverage through the University of La Verne, in accordance with the Affordable Care Act (ACA), for employees who work an average of 30 or more hours per week.
- Workers Compensation Insurance: Coverage under the University of La Verne Workers Compensation Insurance.
