Job Overview:

The Position

As the Manager of Alternative Accounting Operations, you will oversee all facets of accounting activities conducted by the team that supports Fidelity's alternative investment offerings. You will collaborate closely with a team of professionals engaged in accounting and pricing tasks, serving as the main point of contact for daily operational requirements. Your role will involve providing guidance, leadership, and support in conjunction with other team members within the business unit. This position necessitates a deep understanding of daily deliverable evaluations, key initiatives, business performance assessments, and relationship management. Given that this is a relatively new team within Fidelity, you may also need to be actively involved in operations, assisting with complex alternative funds and contributing to the development of processes and procedures. Alongside operational duties, the Manager is dedicated to mentoring staff to foster the team's development and growth.

As a vital member of the Alternative Accounting team, you will engage in operational responsibilities, collaborate with various teams within FFIO, and interact with senior members of FFIO's organizations with a significant degree of autonomy.

The Expertise and Skills You Bring

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Accounting, or Finance preferred
  • Over 5 years of experience in financial services
  • Experience with Geneva software is advantageous
  • Proven management experience with the ability to lead a team and cultivate customer relationships in a dynamic environment
  • Provides constructive feedback, direction, and assists in the development and cross-training of analysts within the team
  • Develops operational processes and procedures for new product offerings
  • Recognizes and rewards contributions, initiative, and achievement of results
  • Coordinates and directs departmental workflows
  • Participates in and executes strategies and initiatives established by senior leadership
  • Recommends enhancements to systems, processes, responsibilities, and reporting
  • Oversees testing of new technologies prior to implementation and communicates results to peers and management
  • Offers technical leadership and serves as a resource for the group and other areas of Fidelity
  • Monitors and evaluates the department's control environment; identifies potential issues and their implications on internal controls, driving actions to mitigate risks
  • Escalates operational incidents to senior management and the Risk team; manages the resolution process
  • Builds and maintains relationships with business partners, ensuring service level expectations are met

The Team

The Alternative Accounting Team operates within the Fund Operations division of Fidelity's Fund and Investment Operations (FFIO) business unit. This division provides essential back-office operational support for Fidelity's Retail and Institutional products, including maintenance of books and records, securities pricing, performance analysis at both fund and security levels, financial reporting, and tax-related work. The Alternative Accounting Team is responsible for operational support and performs daily, monthly, and quarterly pricing and bookkeeping for Fidelity's alternative and digital products within FFIO.
