The Podiatric Hospitalist is accountable for delivering direct patient care by thoroughly reviewing medical histories and synthesizing comprehensive data relevant to patient health. This role involves educating and consulting patients and their families regarding treatment plans. The specialist will provide care for hospitalized patients with conditions affecting the foot, ankle, and related leg structures. The schedule includes 8-hour day shifts with occasional weekend and evening on-call responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Direct Patient Care:
- Specializes in managing conditions related to the foot, ankle, and leg.
- Handles all limb salvage cases and inpatient podiatric consultations, including necessary surgical procedures.
- Collaborates as a vital member of a multidisciplinary team, including vascular surgery, internal medicine, and infectious disease specialists.
- Evaluates and coordinates patient information to make informed decisions regarding care.
- Provides educational support and treatment plans to patients and their families.
- Engages with patients to enhance their health outcomes.
- Practices with consideration for cultural diversity and legal responsibilities.
- Documents patient care electronically in accordance with licensure requirements.
- Participates in a multidisciplinary approach to case management.
- May be involved in on-call duties.
- May lead responsibilities in wound care clinics.
Qualifications:
- Doctoral/Ph.D. level advanced degree in Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine, or equivalent from an accredited institution.
- Completion of a 24-month residency in Podiatric Medicine and Surgery from a CPME-approved program.
- 0 to 2 years of relevant experience in the specialty area.
- Must hold a valid medical license from the MN Board of Medical Practice upon hire.
- ACLS-BLS Tier 3 certification required within 180 days.
- PALS certification required based on business unit upon hire.
- NRP certification required based on business unit upon hire.
- Must obtain a valid medical license from WI upon hire.
- Board Certification or Board Eligibility by the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgeons required upon hire.
- Drug Enforcement Agency Certificate required upon hire.
- Prescription Monitoring Program registration required upon hire.
- National Provider Identifier required upon hire.
Physical Demands:
Medium Work: Lifting weight up to 32 lbs. occasionally and up to 25 lbs. frequently, in accordance with safe patient moving policies.
