Position Overview:
This role offers a $2500 sign-on bonus for external applicants. The Neurology Unit (9B) is a specialized environment focusing on high-acuity patients.
Unit Details:
- Total Beds: 26 (22 private + 4 in Safety Monitoring Unit)
- Patient Demographics: Primarily adults over 17 years with various neurological conditions including strokes, seizures, and neurosurgical procedures.
Nurse to Patient Ratio:
1:5 (occasionally 1:6)
Department Culture:
The unit promotes a collaborative atmosphere among nurses, healthcare technicians, and other healthcare professionals to ensure quality patient care. Emphasis is placed on teamwork and effective communication.
Key Responsibilities:
- Administer medications and IV therapies (excluding IV push medications).
- Document patient assessments and care plans under RN supervision.
- Collaborate with healthcare providers to coordinate patient care.
- Perform essential nursing tasks including dressing changes and tracheostomy care.
- Assist with feeding through NG tubes and ostomy care.
- Provide patient education and reinforce discharge instructions.
Qualifications:
- Educational Requirement: College Diploma in Practical Nursing.
- Certification: Licensed Practical Nurse in Illinois and Basic Life Support (BLS).
Essential Functions:
- Administer prescribed medications and manage IV fluids.
- Document care and communicate effectively with the healthcare team.
- Provide comprehensive nursing care tailored to individual patient needs.
