Job Responsibilities:


Accountable for ensuring that aircraft and weather conditions are suitable for transporting medical personnel and patients to designated healthcare facilities within a specified operational area.

Responsible for adhering to Federal Aviation Regulations (FAR), Aeronautical Information Manual (AIM), General Operations Manual guidelines (GOM), and possessing a thorough understanding of Air Methods' policies and procedures.


Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Operate Air Methods aircraft in a safe and compliant manner.
  • Conduct pre-flight inspections prior to each flight to confirm the aircraft is in an airworthy state, documented in the Daily Flight Log. Pilots will perform a comprehensive walk-around of the aircraft before entering the cockpit and after each flight.
  • Hold final authority regarding aircraft operations and the safety of passengers, cargo, and equipment.
  • Maintain familiarity with all aircraft and medical systems of backup aircraft utilized in the operational area and ensure that the medical flight team is knowledgeable and comfortable with the medical interior and systems.
  • Complete necessary documentation as required.
  • Capable of conducting detailed flight planning with minimal notice to high standards.
  • Participate regularly in Air Methods meetings, activities, projects, committees, and community outreach initiatives.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

  • Regular attendance is essential for this position.
In accordance with applicable laws and Air Methods' policies, regular attendance is a fundamental aspect of the role. All employees must adhere to Air Methods' employment practices and policies.

Qualifications:
Education & Experience:
  • Associate's degree (A.A.) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school, along with two to five years of relevant experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Bachelor's degree is preferred.

Operational and Safety Standards:


As a member of the Flight Crew, individuals in this position must maintain a weight not exceeding 250 pounds and be under seventy (70) years of age.

Skills:
  • Pilots must have recent flight experience in category for a commercial operator or in the military within the last 24 months.
  • Foster positive interpersonal relationships with colleagues, EMS representatives, hospitals, and the public, striving to maintain a friendly and professional work environment.
Minimum Required Flight Times:
  • 2000 total flight hours with a minimum of 1500 flight hours in category.
  • 1000 hours as Pilot in Command (PIC) in category.
  • 500 hours of rotor wing turbine time.
  • 200 hours of cross-country flight time, with at least 50 hours at night.
  • 100 hours of unaided night as PIC (50 hours of unaided can be substituted with 100 hours of NVG time, but cannot be reduced below 50 hours of unaided time).
  • 50 hours total actual or hood instrument time in flight and in category (simulator time does not count). For a rotor wing candidate who is fixed-wing rated, 100 hours or greater of fixed-wing actual or hood instrument time can reduce the rotor wing required instrument time to 25 hours.
Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations:
  • Commercial & Instrument Rating (for category and class of aircraft).
  • ATP rating in category meets this requirement.
  • First OR Second Class FAA Medical certificate is required.
